Dark Tales of Randamor the Recluse

Introduction & Warning

This story was originally planned to be about twenty chapters long. Meanwhile I'm still writing it and I think I am about two thirds finished. What can I say? It got out of hand. From a fairly simple narrative it grew into a rather complex epic tale, set in a kind of medieval world, but, and this is important, not our Middle Ages. There are literally dozens of characters. They kept coming, they all had a tale to tell and they wouldn't be denied. I soon came to the conclusion that I couldn't possibly tell everything in one 'book'.

For those who like them, I must disappoint you, but there will be no dragons (except an heraldic one), magicians, dwarfs or other strange creatures. I'm afraid there will be a lot of strange sounding names, though. Most of them you can forget as soon as you've read them. Since all place names will be unfamiliar I'll provide maps to help you visualize where everything is. They will appear in the text at the appropriate places.

I've deliberately set a slow pace for this story. The characters often try to assess their situation by engaging in silent monologues. It hardly makes for a fast moving, brisk narrative.

Randamor tells his stories only one part at a time and for each narration he exacts a price of his willing listeners and victims.

If all this hasn't driven you away by now, why not read the sample chapters of the first book?
