For months I’ve had some trouble with the eShop on this site.

It was one of those totally frustrating problems that made the module behave quirky. I ended up with sending out every purchase by hand. One upside to having to wait for what seemed like ages on the cover of Castling was that I had some time on my hand. Even so, it was only by coincidence that I found out what was wrong. It was not exactly a bug in the module. Let’s call it a limitation.

Anyhow, the problems are solved. I’ve revamped the whole eShop and made it into one page with all purchasing options clearly marked, including the different vendors. I kept it as simple as possible.

People sometimes ask if independent authors prefer they buy from the writer’s own site. Since we bypass other vendors, I get to keep more of the few dollars a book costs. Paypal takes a small cut, but when you buy through Amazon or the likes, I’m lucky if I get half of what you have paid. On the other hand, each sale on Amazon (and I suppose something similar goes for the others as well) makes the ranking of the book go up. This in turn makes it more visible on the site… which leads to more sales. So, actually I don’t know what is better in the long run, and besides, you should do what you’re comfortable with. If you have a Kobo, a Nook, a Kindle or an iPad, I can imagine you would like to stay within their ecosphere. Please, by all means suit yourself.

I hope you’ll like the new eShop, but, as always, I’m open to suggestions. For the time being the eShop accepts Paypal. Let me know in a comment if you’d like other ways of paying, and I’ll look into it.

If you should encounter the least difficulty, please leave me a message through the Contact form. I’ll try to reply as soon as possible.

The editing and formatting of The Invisible Hands – Part 2: Castling (Dark Tales of Randamor the Recluse – Book V) is finished.

Even the lettering of the cover is done. I’m just waiting for the cover artist to finish the artwork, and I’m hoping that will still be before New Year 2012. To be honest, I was a little bit late in commissioning it, and my cover artist has become rather popular since I worked with him on the cover for «Gambit». The job just before mine gave him some trouble and there have been delays. That’s too bad, but I don’t want to rush him as the quality would probably suffer.

Anyway, the same day my cover artist has finished the artwork I will publish the book. I’m getting impatient myself.

Meanwhile, I will try finding something to tide you over: a second excerpt maybe?

Before committing to a potential outlet, I check out the site for some time and try to talk to people who are already distributing there. I freely admit I’m a rather picky control freak.

Since a few days, my books are now available, not only on Amazon and Kobo but also on All Romance Ebooks, in epub and mobi.

The search function on ARe is fast and accurate, and those who prefer it can use PayPal.

I think the basic framework — i.e. most of the work under the hood — is done.

The eShop should be fully functional. There are three separate pages, respectively for azw (kindle’s format), epub, and mobi-format The azw-page leads you directly to the Amazon-page of a specific book. On the other two you buy directly from this site with PayPal. For the moment this is the only option.

There still is a lot to be done. For the moment there is not much there yet. I have to migrate the old content, in as far as it is still relevant, to the new site. That includes

the info-pages of the books,

old posts and

old comments.

A whole different kettle of fish are

the sample pages and

the section that gives more information on the background of the Dark Tales of Randamor the Recluse books.

I still have to make my mind up how I’m going to organize those.

Meanwhile I need to finish the next installment of Dark Tales, Book V. I also want to edit the first three books. Luckily I have excellent assistance in that job. Then there’s Real Life…

Well, on the upside there’s not much chance I will get bored soon, I suppose.

Feel free to leave suggestions — or to just say hello — in the comment-section below.

As you probably noticed this site is not nearly finished.

There was somewhat of a learning curve involved, since I migrated from Joomla! to WordPress. Not too steep a learning curve because Joomla! is more complicated, both to install and to operate. Installing WordPress is a breeze. I was surprised and impressed. Learning the basics proved easy as well, though once you need to get under the hood of the system that’s something else altogether. Luckily there is a big userbase around and finding answers wasn’t too difficult. although there are some things still that baffle me.

So far I have a more or less decent homepage, in the sense that it is clean an relatively uncluttered. I’ll be adding some graphical elements later though. The beginning of an eShop is also there. The hard work behind the screen is done, i.e. the actual elements that set up the download-section are in place. I just need to provide it with a storefront.

I will be adding the old content — or what I think is still relevant — piecemeal. So don’t be surprised if you see old comments appearing one by one.

Speaking about comments, if you have a suggestion, feel free to leave one.

My novel A Dish Served Cold got an honorable mention (6th place) in the category Best LGBT Coming of Age / Young Adult of the Rainbow Awards, organized by Elisa Rolle.

I am hardly a well-known name, even in the M/M-romance genre, so I was pleasantly surprised my book got noticed at all.

I must admit I find the classification a bit strange. In A Dish Served Cold the main characters themselves fall under that category (for most of the story), but the novel is not aimed at young adults. Yes, there is a coming-out-theme and young, budding love, but it is only the background against which far more darker events take place.

However, I’m certainly far from complaining.

Thanks, Elisa and all who voted for Dish.
